R M Williams Acquisition

On 1st October 2019 the JSD Group completed on the purchase of the Lancashire based engineering supplies business R M Williams (Accrington).

Now where do I start with this one.

It was back in May this year when as a management team we were discussing the expansion of JSD Engineering and Construction. We decided to begin the search for new bigger workshop premises to accommodate the ever growing steelwork and fabrication work we had coming in. After a few days of searching property listings a suitable property was seen and off we went to view it. Well… what can I say the property was perfect for us but unfortunately a deal could not be agreed on the sale BUT…………………………………………..

While visiting said premises we decided to call into a neighbouring business and enquire about the history of past owners or tenants.  As we were speaking with the gentleman behind the sales counter he told us of the past businesses that had been in the neighbouring property and the fact that it had been empty for some while, he also dropped into the conversation that the business we were stood in was also up for sale.  Immediately Stuart and I looked at each other and each of us raised a brow and said “that’s interesting”. We thanked the gent for his help and left the building, only to walk a couple of yards down the street to our cars to stop and turn to each other and say “do we check this one out?”. We returned to the shop and asked for the details of the management and if we could make inquiries into the sale of the business. We were offered a tour of the premises so we could see the scope of the business and were immediately impressed by the depth of the stock holding of Engineering Supplies and amazing array of Tools, Fixings and Workwear all under one roof and also the fact that it supplied some of the major engineering, manufacturing and construction businesses throughout Lancashire.

The rest they say is now history, following a few months of negotiation the purchase was completed on Tuesday 1st October 2019.
